Bridges of Being

Cloak not the bridge that connects
the server with the served
The righteous with the meek
The saints with the demons.
For beneath the veils of separation we boldly cast
We are the same crossing,
the crossing of man.

I Dreamed of Rain

I dreamed of rain, and the rains came
Soft and easy, sweet and clear
I dreamed of rain, and the rains came, and peace spread over the land I dreamed of summer, and the winds changed
And the green was easy, and the rivers ran clear
I dreamed of summer, and the winds changed, and peace spread over the land
And the flowers bloom in the desert,
And the air is fresh and clear
I dreamed of rain, and the rains came, and peace spread over the landI dreamed of freedom, and the moon rose
And the way was easy, and the path was clear
I dreamed of freedom, and the moon rose, and peace spread over the land
And the guardian stars are shining
And the night is bright and clear
I dreamed of freedom, and the moon rose, and peace spread over the landI dreamed of heaven, and the earth sang
And the sound was easy, and the song was clear
I dreamed of heaven, and the earth sang, and peace spread over the land
And the ancient pain is forgotten
And the father debts are clear
I dreamed of heaven, and the earth sang, and peace spread over the land
I dreamed of rain

Untitled

blood streaming down
thighs
as baby-girl-child
pushed through a womb of lies

bombs drip drop like the sound of rain
but it's the sound of sirens
that warns of pain
stand in hallway when cartoons are gone
think it's safe mommy for me to
come out and play?
with shared glass and
shattered heart

i take part of
i take part of
i take part of me
i take apart me
and leave pieces to stay
perhaps some day
i'll come back
but before i do
i must pay homage to
the land of refuge

land where
mom
dad
brother and i

share one room, two beds
one fate, four heads

tongues speak of loss and pain
still driving me insane
because no one wants to hear
another immigrant story
all our stories are the same
run from motherland, like 1 out of 150 people
who have fled their homes...
four out of four, 100%

run from motherland as bombs
drip
drop
drop
drip
drop like the sound of tears
warning of fears by sisters lost sisters
mothers lost sisters
sisters lost brothers
brothers lost fathers
run from motherland as bombs
drip
drop
drop
drip
drop like the sound of rain
warning of its pain
Hear sirens now and still think
flood about to
wash
me
away

Essay of America
By:
Samantha (age 16) Salt Lake City, UT

These are the voices of America, they made to stand up and tell the truth about the rights they are given as Americans.
But what if all people who took a stand to state what they believe did so just because they wanted to be known for what they have achieved? Would that be considered responsible? Absolutely not! Even though they were doing what is right, they would be doing it for the benefit of themselves.
And how many of those that we have forgotten? Is it possible that some of those people have had more influence on us than the names we have grown up with? And if so would that be considered responsible for the people with popularity to take those influences and ideas and use them with their great authority?
To tell you the truth, I'm not sure that anyone has asked those questions, but I think it's time someone did as part of our patriotic duty.
